Angelina Leatherbarrow
Chair
Angelina has been the Chair of Romford Labour since 2016 and was selected to represent Romford as the Parliamentary Candidate in 2017. She has been a member of the Labour Party since 2015 and joined because "I want a socialist government and I passionately defend equality and fairness in our society. I am raising two young daughters in Romford so I want to play my part in making it an inclusive, safe, welcoming place with a true sense of community. That celebrates and values diversity and supports our most vulnerable residents".
Nigel Meyer
Vice Chair
Nigel was born in Romford and has spent most of his life living in the town. He has been Vice Chair since 2016 and has recently retired after working in a local business. He is a Trustee of Redbridge Peace Garden and has been involved in a number of Havering voluntary and community groups. Nigel was a Havering Councillor for 8 years.
Robert Ritchie
Secretary
Robert is Secretary of Romford Labour Party, he grew up in Romford and now lives in Collier Row. He has held the post for the past 5 years, but joined the party when he was 18. Robert works locally as a Human Resources Manager and combines this with being a workplace Trade Union Activist for PCS Union. "I have always lived in Romford and have witnessed the neglect that the area has suffered from Tory mismanagement. I work as a Human Resources Manager with a background in public service, so I have also seen first-hand the damaging effect of the Tory Austerity programme. As a commuter, I want to see some positive action by the Council to solve the chronic traffic problems which affect Romford every day and ensure our community really gets the best out of the opportunities that Cross Rail can bring".
Paul Cassidy
Treasurer
Paul has lived in Romford for 25 years and is married to Margaret. They have 3 children and 4 grandchildren. He joined the Labour Party at the age of 20 when he was living in Hackney and has been a member of Romford Labour Party for as long as he has lived in the Borough. Paul is now retired but worked for London Underground for 31 years, starting as a Train Guard before gaining promotion to a Train Driver and then moving into the management grades. Throughout his career he was active within the ASLEF trade union holding various branch positions including Treasurer and Health and Safety representative. His hobbies include walking with the local Havering Ramblers’ group, scuba diving, walking football and cycling. He is also a volunteer at Queen’s hospital.
Olivier Mupenda
Trade Union Liaison Officer and joint Campaign and Press Officer
"As a dedicated socialist, I am confident that with the Labour Party we will be able to provide community oriented solutions in Romford by understanding the needs of local residents. I am a Trade Unionist and Labour Party member where I volunteer as a Trade Union Liaison Organisation (TULO) Officer as well as a co-campaign coordinator".
Dan Nichols
Political Officer
Dan has lived in Romford since 1976 and is a longstanding Labour Party member. He previously served as the Chair of the constituency party and is a former UNISON shop steward. His role within the Constituency Party is to facilitate political education and debate in the local party.
Peter Wheelband
Disability Officer and joint Campaign and Press Officer
Originally from East London Peter has now lived in Romford for 15 years with his wife and their two children. "I joined the Labour Party because I believe in safeguarding worker’s rights, investing in public services and creating a fairer society for everyone. Only a Labour government will achieve these goals".
